The 2020s: using current hits properly

Current songs are the hardest material at a mixed celebration. They reach the younger guests instantly and leave most of the rest blank. You still cannot leave them out – otherwise the evening feels like an oldies night.
The rule of thumb
Roughly every fifth or sixth song can be current. That is enough for the night to feel present without tipping the floor. Placement matters: put new songs between two safe ones, never two new ones back to back.

Worth knowing about if your guest list is largely German – these are the ones people will react to.
German party Schlager divides opinion more than any other genre – worth settling in the pre-event call.
The mistake to avoid
Building a playlist entirely from the current charts because it should feel modern. At a celebration with guests between twenty and seventy that reliably produces a dance floor with eight people on it. The night lives on the mix, not on how recent the music is.
