DJ at Schlichte Hof, Bielefeld

A building from 1492, restaurant and hotel under one roof, on the southern edge of town in Brackwede: Schlichte Hof is one of the addresses in Bielefeld where the evening does not end at midnight and the guests who want to stay do not have to drive. What that means for the running order, and for the equipment, is below.

Our setup at Schlichte Hof. Our own footage, not material from the venue.

What we saw there ourselves

We have played several weddings here, and two things stay with us every time: the food and the staff. The food is among the best we have come across at weddings, and the service is attentive enough that you do not notice it – which is the highest compliment a service team can get. At the booth it is compact, and depending on the guest count a table stands on the dance floor itself. That is exactly right: a floor that is on the small side fills up by itself, while one that is too big stays half empty and nobody dares be the first on it. And it stays quiet enough at the bar that people can carry on a conversation there.

A dance floor is better slightly too small than too big

Depending on the guest count, a table stands on the dance floor here. That sounds like a shortcoming and is not one – quite the opposite. A floor on the small side fills up by itself: the people dancing stand close together, and atmosphere comes from being close. A floor that is too big shows every gap, and then nobody dares be the first onto it.

For a celebration of up to around 100 guests, the proportions at Schlichte Hof are exactly right. We place the booth so the floor in front of it stays compact rather than stretching it out artificially.

Loud on the floor, quiet at the bar

The room carries well, and here that is a real advantage. It is possible to give the dance floor a full sound without it getting too loud at the bar, where people can carry on talking. At a party with a mixed crowd, that is exactly the difference between everyone dancing or everyone leaving, and an evening where both work side by side.

We arrive about an hour and a half before your first guest and tune the sound to the empty room. By the time people come in from the reception, they can already hear how the evening will sound.

For this room our Plus package is the right fit, precisely. Ultra would be a size too big here – more light and more sound than the room carries. This is one of the few cases where the decision is settled before the call.

Reception on the terrace, party inside

There is a terrace in front of the building, and it removes the usual break in the evening: the reception, the cigarette break and the photographs all happen there while everything indoors is already standing. That hour outside needs music that carries without anyone having to shout – outdoors there are no walls to send the sound back.

So a battery speaker comes along that runs independently of the gear inside, without cable or socket. If the weather turns, the set simply moves in with everyone else.

No fixed end, and what that changes

The venue states that celebrations run open end, into the early hours. For the evening that means the peak does not have to be scheduled for half past midnight. We can build the second half of the night more slowly and place the final song when the dance floor asks for it.

We still plan an ending. A party that simply fizzles out because the last twenty guests get tired is nobody's favourite memory the next day, whereas a deliberate last song is.

Anyone who wants to stay does not have to drive

19 beds on site is a statement for a celebration of this size. Guests from further away do not have to arrange a lift, and nobody leaves at eleven because the taxi is booked. According to the venue, the couple stays free of charge.

You notice it on the dance floor: where the overnight question is settled, the second half of the night stays considerably fuller.

The food here is not a side note

We do not write this about every venue, which is why it stands here: the kitchen at Schlichte Hof is among the best we have come across at weddings. For your running order that has a concrete consequence – a menu that is good takes time. The shift from dinner into the evening wants planning, or the music is ready while the room is still seated.

Common questions – Schlichte Hof

How many guests fit into Schlichte Hof?

The venue states up to 120 people (as of 26 August 2026), with exclusive hire from 45 people. How many of those can sit and dance at the same time depends on the seating plan, which is best settled directly with the venue once your guest list is final.

Can we celebrate into the night at Schlichte Hof?

The venue advertises celebrations open end, into the early hours. What is binding in the end is what your contract with the venue says, and we build the running order around that time rather than the other way round.

Is the dance floor big enough?

Yes. Depending on the guest count a table stands on it – that is not a shortcoming but rather an advantage. A dance floor that is slightly too small fills up by itself and carries the mood; one that is too big shows every gap. For a celebration of up to around 100 guests the proportions here are exactly right.

Can our guests stay at the venue?

The venue states 19 beds, and according to them the couple stays free of charge. Ask the venue directly about room allocations and weekend rates.
